Starting prices
These are ProAir’s published starting prices for a standard installation of wall-mounted units.
| System | Typical use | From |
|---|---|---|
| Single room | One bedroom or a home office | £1,650 |
| Two rooms | Two bedrooms, or a bedroom and an office | £1,950 |
| Three rooms | Most of the upstairs in a typical house | £2,400 |
What “from” means
A starting price covers a straightforward job: a short pipe run, an outdoor unit at ground level and a power supply close by. The survey confirms whether your home fits that.
Whole home or ducted
usually
£6,000 to £20,000+
Depends on the number of rooms, the system type and how much building work is involved. Compare whole-home options.
What pushes the price up
Most of the difference between two quotes for the same number of rooms comes from the building, not the equipment.
- Longer pipe runs. If the outdoor unit has to sit a long way from the indoor unit, more pipe, cable and labour are needed.
- Where the outdoor unit goes. A unit on wall brackets high up, or on a flat roof, takes longer to fit safely than one on the ground.
- Larger or sunnier rooms. These need a higher-capacity unit.
- Electrical work. Some homes need a new circuit from the consumer unit.
- Hidden pipework. Running pipes inside walls, ceilings or the loft costs more than neat surface trunking.
- How several rooms are served. Rooms can share one outdoor unit or each have their own, and the two are priced differently.
Running costs
What a unit costs to run depends on how hard it works, how long it runs and what you pay for electricity. You can estimate it from the unit’s power draw.

| Example | Power draw | Hours a day | Unit rate | Cost a day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, overnight | 0.5 kW | 6 | 25p/kWh | about 75p |
| Home office, working day | 0.8 kW | 8 | 25p/kWh | about £1.60 |
Use your own tariff
These are worked examples, not quotes. Your bill shows your unit rate in pence per kWh. Multiply it by the unit’s power draw and the hours you expect to use it.

Questions people ask
Do I need planning permission?
Many home installations count as permitted development, so no application is needed. Listed buildings, conservation areas, flats and units close to a boundary can be different. The surveyor will tell you if anything needs checking with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
How much mess is there?
A wall-unit installation needs one small hole through an outside wall for the pipes. Installers use dust sheets and clear up before they leave.
Is it noisy?
Indoor units are designed for bedrooms and have quiet settings for night-time. The outdoor unit makes a steady fan noise when it runs, so the survey looks for a spot away from windows, including your neighbours’.
